*** New to digital voice file dictation? ***
This
page will tell you everything you need to know!
Digital voice recording technology
for medical professionals was pioneered and perfected by Olympus
Corporation whereby a portable digital handheld recorder is used for medical
dictation much in the
same way as using a handheld cassette tape recorder. However, with a
digital handheld recorder, no cassette tape
is used. Instead, the voice recording is stored as a digital computer file
created by the recorder itself and then transferred to a personal computer for
playback and transcribing. The recorded digital voice files (most commonly
.dss, .wma, or .wav files) are then sent by
E-Mail or internet-based FTP (file transfer protocol) to the transcriptionist
which completely eliminates the need for physical pickup and delivery of
cassette tapes and transcribed reports. All files are thus transferred
electronically from one computer to another. In this way, digital voice files and
transcribed reports can be quickly transferred across town or across the country
in a matter of seconds. This
results in increased convenience, faster turnaround, better organization of
patient records, and improved efficiency for both physician and transcriber.
But
perhaps the most notable advantage of using a portable digital handheld
recorder is the "virtual CD quality sound" during playback.
Indeed, digital voice file dictation provides for the most accurate listening and transcribing
experience possible which results in better interpretation, fewer errors, increased speed of
transcription, and lower medical transcription costs.
